The ADHD Urge to Start Over (Again)
Do you keep scrapping your systems and starting from scratch?
Hi again!
That rush of excitement when you buy a new planner, rearrange your workspace, or decide that this time you’ll really stay on track?
Totally normal. Especially if you have ADHD.
We often confuse feeling stuck with needing to start over. And while a fresh start can be helpful, sometimes it’s not a lack of the right system — it’s a lack of follow-through support.
Here’s what I often tell my clients:
If you keep jumping between tools and apps and color-coded systems, the problem probably isn’t your method — it’s that your method doesn’t come with built-in maintenance.
Try this instead:
Before you throw out the system, pause and ask: What part actually works?
What if you just updated one piece instead of burning it all down?
Can you build in a quick weekly “reset” that helps the system stay alive?
ADHD brains love to build — but they also need support to sustain. And that’s not failure. That’s just how your brain works best.
You’ve got this!
